NEW DELHI: With the aim of increasing availability of medical services for treatment of both Covid and non-Covid patients, the government has empanelled over 1,000 hospitals under Ayushman Bharat since April 1 taking the total number of hospitals under the scheme to more than 21,541 across India.
Private hospitals account for 78.4% of the new empanelment under the simplified process, even as the share of public hospitals continues be slightly higher at 56% of the total empanelment in around two years when the scheme was launched, according to data from National Health Authority. Of the 1,006 hospitals empanelled since April 1, 789 hospitals are in private and the rest in public sector. The highest empanelment are in Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Assam, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and UP.
NHA recently launched express empanelment to bring larger number of private hospitals under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana umbrella to ensure continued essential treatment.
